Golden Agers
The Salvation Army in Des Moines hosts programs and events for the community's over-60 generation! Monthly Golden Ager luncheons are held at 12 noon on the second Wednesday of each month at the Temple Corps Community Center, Sixth and Forest. A program is featured after the luncheon ($4.00 charge.). Free transportation to and from the Golden Agers luncheon is available.
Community Care Ministries
Community Care Ministries from the Citadel Corps and the Temple Corps reach out to the elderly, regularly visiting nusing homes in Polk County. At Easter and Christmas nearly 10,000 gifts and magazines are distributed to the elderly in our nursing homes. Sing-a-long and worship programs are regularly presented in various senior care centers.
The Salvation Army's Community Care Ministries visited more than 3.3 million people with special needs in hospitals, nursing homes and correctional facilities nationwide last year.
